In September 2014, Bianca will move to London where she will commence her studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. The School consistently produces singers of the highest calibre, many of whom go on to work for leading international opera companies. It has been rated as the No.1 specialist institution in the UK by the Guardian University Guide 2013 and 2014, and is considered a global leader of innovative and creative professional practice in the Arts.
Bianca was selected from hundreds of international applicants to take up a place on the two-year Guildhall Artist Masters programme for 2014/15. As part of her studies, Bianca will study principally with soprano Yvonne Kenny, as well as with internationally renowned faculty and visiting artists.
‘I first heard Yvonne Kenny sing when I was in my second year of university’, Bianca remembers. ‘I spent many weeks listening in wonder to a recording she made at the Wigmore Hall of French songs. I was so moved by her singing; its sensitivity, uniqueness and beauty, and I have greatly admired her ever since. It feels surreal and very exciting to now be heading to London to study with this remarkable singer; Yvonne is an outstanding teacher and a real inspiration to me’.
The Guildhall vocal performance masters programme is designed to prepare singers for the demands of a professional career, with classes in foreign language studies and diction, opera and theatre coaching, stagecraft, oratorio and wide opportunities for performing in and around London.
Bianca’s opportunity to study at the Guildhall comes with a price tag; she is currently trying to raise NZD$90,000 to cover her international tuition fees and living costs for the first year of her studies.
